Bosch Thermotechnology, part of the Bosch Group’s Home Comfort division, operates a manufacturing facility in Aveiro with over 1,300 collaborators. From this site, the company develops and produces hot water solutions (including electric and gas water heaters, boilers, and heat pumps) for markets across the globe, making it one of the group’s key hubs for advanced manufacturing technologies.

Axians was brought in to redesign and refactor Skillinx, Bosch’s existing Industrial AIoT platform built on OutSystems. Skillinx was developed to enable Human-Robot Collaboration: the intelligent management of how human operators and automated systems work side by side on the factory floor. Despite its strong functional foundation, the solution had accumulated technical debt and UX inconsistencies that were limiting its usability and long-term scalability.

Challenge

| UX quality across key modules

Specific modules within Skillinx had been identified as lacking in UX quality, with inconsistent navigation, confusing workflows, and interfaces that created friction for factory floor operators.

| Technical debt in the frontend architecture

The existing frontend had been built without consistent patterns or reusable components, making the solution difficult to maintain, scale, and evolve over time.

| Alignment with corporate and industry standards

The solution needed to be brought in line with Bosch’s corporate style guidelines and OutSystems best practices, both in terms of visual consistency and code quality.

The refactor gave Bosch a scalable, maintainable foundation for one of its core manufacturing technologies. Reusable patterns and components replaced ad hoc code across every screen, so the platform is now far easier to evolve as factory needs change.

Version management through site properties introduced controlled releases with rollback capability, giving the team a safer… Read the full solution. Download it now.

Results

| Reusable Patterns and Components

By implementing consistent patterns and reusable components, we achieved uniformity across all screens and modules.

| Specific CSS Themes

Tailoring CSS themes not only promoted performance but also ensured maintainability and scalability.

| Leveraging OutSystems Patterns

Our strategic use of OutSystems patterns streamlined development and maintenance, significantly reducing time investment while eliminating redundancy.

| Workflow Enhancements and Screen Merges

We optimized the user experience by adjusting workflows and merging screens. This consolidation ensured that relevant and usable information remained readily accessible.

| Context-Driven Screen Adjustments

Accommodating both lists and KPIs allowed users to seamlessly transition to their next actions with proper context.
